A light-filled condo

A full renovation of a compact North Toronto condo for one busy professional. I reworked the layout, the lighting, the finishes, and the furnishings so the home works harder every day and feels bigger than its square footage.

Where it started

The square footage was fixed, and too much of it was going to waste. The kitchen was short on counter space and storage. Bulkheads and a non-structural wall blocked the light and cut the rooms off from each other, the corners stayed dim, and getting through the condo meant working around the furniture.

What I did

All of it happened inside the building's existing structure.

Kitchen: I took a little space from the dining area to give the kitchen a proper workflow, with more counter space and storage where it was needed most.
Walls and ceilings: removing the bulkheads and a non-structural wall opened the sightlines, joined the living areas, and let natural light reach further into the unit.
Lighting: recessed and decorative fixtures replaced the dim corners, layered for cooking, daily routines, and evenings.
Living room: I proposed a botanical wallpaper mural, shown digitally in these photos. She wasn't ready for it then. After seeing it here, she's now choosing wallpaper for the living room and the bedroom.
Furniture: scaled to the rooms and placed to keep the walkways open.
Bedroom: furniture, bedding, and window treatments, with one window motorized.

How it lives now

The condo feels bigger than its square footage. Light reaches further into the unit, the kitchen has room to cook, and there's a clear path through every room. Storage sits where it's needed.
